It is mid-July on the Tibetan Plateau. It is supposed to be the warmest time of year. Normal temperatures are in the upper 60’s and low 70’s. However, for nearly the past week, the temperatures have hardly gotten above the low 50’s in Dartsendo. Last night the low temperatures got down to the upper 30’s and all of the mountains surrounding Dartsendo have fresh snow. Inside our apartment this morning the temperature was only 58F. Rain is common during the months of June through late August, but this summer seems to be much wetter and cooler than normal.
Tamara and her mother flew into Dartsendo yesterday and there was about 3 or 4 inches of slushy snow at the airport! Tamara’s mom went from one end of China where the temperatures were in the 90’s to the other end to snow and near freezing temperatures.
It is only mid-summer but it feels more like early winter! There is still plenty of time for the westher to change and for summer to finally come!
